Ron's playing is thoroughly satisfying. He has all of those qualities I admire: a superb sense of swing, great melodic ideas, an understanding of the fingerboard and the many possibilities for chord shapes and solo choices - and best of all, a youthful exuberance for the guitar and it's capabilities. Plus, he's one of the nicest people you'll ever meet.
Along with being a great jazz player, Ron can really dig in and play some fiery blues guitar! He's put a lot of time into all kinds of music, and his dedication really shows.
Ron Peters is a guitarist with a beautifully warm sound who understands the value of melody. When I am fortunate enough to be making music with Ron, I love the way he creates a certain space that allow magical moments to happen. Ron plays swinging and engaging solos, is a superb accompanist and has a great feel no matter what style of music he plays. Last but not least he's a blast to hang out with and knows a ton about wine!
Ron can play the most advanced jazz one moment, and in the very next moment, get low-down and bluesy or play a delicate ballad, all with authority, intellect and passion. I adore his playing.
I’ve known Ron since 1995, when he introduced me to Jim Dunlop 205 picks while waiting for the Vashon ferry on the way to SAM camp (I upgraded right away from 204s), and have thoroughly enjoyed my friendship with him ever since. We’ve had lots of fun playing together and hanging out, and his sense of humor is as good as his playing. Ron’s not only got me using the right picks, he’s shown me lots of great tunes, inspired me to play better than I actually do, and graciously loaned me his Goodall guitar every February when we fly north from Oakland for the PSGW winter retreat. Since I also play a Goodall, I’m looking forward to starting a duo with Ron someday called “The Goodall Boys.”
When I joined my first L.A. R&B band, Ron was the awesome guitarist with shoulder-length blonde hair. Twenty five years later, he’s transcended awesome, even though his hair is somewhat shorter and greyer. Guess that’s what an illustrious career in the music business will do! Ron has followed his passion, and we’re all the better for it.
Looking for big ears, impeccable taste, and a supportive and helpful guide down the path of jazz guitar? Look no further than Ron Peters.
Ron's playing utilizes each and every one of the 12 tones (though rarely all at once). Furthermore, he places them in highly pleasing sequences, and is a master at stopping precisely when his playing has concluded. Somehow, Ron keeps smiling through it all. He is an inspiration to all of us.
I met Ron Peters at Berklee in the early '70's. That's a long time ago, but some things never change...like the way a person is, deep inside, and how it reflects in his creativity. Ron Peters is, and has always been, a decent human being, who brings respect and kindness into the world. Always aware of quality, loving the guitar, and loving jazz has brought him thus far. If you love these things too, you will enjoy the creativity of Ron Peters.
